Old school recycling

So I've had this great idea for a project that I'm excited about. I totally got the inspiration from Naartje's clothes (I took Paige shopping Saturday night). Their style is totally bohemian, mix and match fabrics with raw edges and extra ruffles and such. So instead of throwing out all the leggings, pants, shirts and skirts that are too short for my girls (don't think it'll work so well for my boys) I'm going to add a little something to make them a little longer, (a ruffle or two, stretchy lace, patches?) and hopefully cuter. My first project that I have is a dress my sister made Annabelle that is darling, but the smocking top is too tight now to get her arms into. I have a knit T shirt that is a size too small (too short) and I'm going to sew them together and add some embellishments and Voila! (well, we'll see!!) I'm not a great seamstress, but my new machine has inspired me. Plus, how very ecofriendly and pocketbook concious I will be!!

I totally know what dress you are talking about. It is WAY too cute to outgrow. Great idea! I have considered something similar with Ashley's pants because she's outgrowing everything so fast. I've thought about just chopping them off and making capri's. And I have a bazillion Gymboree leggings that Ash wore, but Liv hates them. But I bet she's wear them as capri leggings with something around the cuff. Great idea. I'm inspired, too!!

PS What is yoru new machine? Don't tell me you have a serger or I will be incredibly jealous!

Katie...you need to post some pictutres of your new project! I am excited to see them.

My girls have really cute white dresses from a yar or so ago & I was thinking of adding some cute fabric. Target has one at their store now that is just like it but with a little layer underneath of light blue paisley ??? or something? Great ideas to stretch the buget!
